Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Depart Arusha after breakfast and drive approximately 2.5 hours to Tarangire National Park. Enter the park and begin a full-day game drive along the Tarangire River, where hundreds of elephants, buffalo, zebra, and wildebeest congregate, especially during the dry season. The ancient baobab trees create a unique landscape unlike any other park. Look for tree-climbing lions, python, and over 300 bird species including the endemic ashy starling. Camp near the park as the African bush comes alive at night.
Tarangire to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After an early breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive in Tarangire before departing for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Drive through the Maasai steppe with opportunities to see local Maasai pastoralists with their cattle. Arrive at the Ngorongoro Crater rim and settle into camp, enjoying spectacular views down into the caldera. An optional walk along the crater rim offers stunning sunset photographs.
Ngorongoro Crater & Return to Arusha
Begin the day with a dawn descent into the Ngorongoro Crater. Spend the morning exploring the crater floor — a natural amphitheatre covering 260 square kilometres and home to over 25,000 large mammals. Big Five sightings are common: watch for black rhino in the Lerai Forest, lion prides on the open grasslands, and flamingos at Lake Magadi. After a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, ascend the crater and drive back to Arusha.
